Underpinning Contract (UC) (ITILv3):    [Service Design] A Contract between an IT Service Provider and a Third Party. The Third Party provides goods or Services that support delivery of an IT Service to a Customer. The Underpinning Contract defines targets and responsibilities tat are required to meet agreed Service Level Targets in an SLA.

Underpinning Contract (ITILv2):    A contract with an external supplier covering the delivery of goods and/or services that contribute to the delivery of IT services to Customers. The terms and conditions of underpinning contracts should reflect and be reflected in the appropriate Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
