Function

Characteristics of a function include:

• units of an organization, specialized to perform certain types of work and responsible for specific outcomes

• self-contained  with capabilities and resources necessary to their performance and outcomes
• possess work methods internal to the functions and a body of knowledge, accumulated from experience

Functions that provide organizational structure include:

• define roles and associated authority and responsibility for a specific performance and outcome

• coordinate between functions through shared processes
• establish functional hierarchy, coordination and control

Process

Characteristics of a process include:

• measurable

• specific results
• delivers primary results to a customer or stakeholder
• responds to a specific event, traceable, with a specific trigger
