Control (ITILv3):    A means of managing a Risk, ensuring that a Business Objective is achieved or ensuring that a Process is followed. Example Controls include Policies, Procedures, Roles, RAID, door-locks, etc. A control is sometimes called a Countermeasure or safeguard.
