Configuration Control:    Activities concerned with ensuring that only authorized and identifiable Configuration Items (CIs) are recorded throughout their life-cycle and that no CI is added, modified, replaced or removed without appropriate controlling documentation, e.g. an approved Request for Change. Configuration Control also includes controlling access to the information held on CIs.
